Name comes from ....
This land was fed by two major rivers, one Barapuzha and Bavalipuzha. People began to call both the confluence of the rivers Iratta puzha (double puzha), and over time the land became Iritty ...

Culture ...
This is the same with the culture of India and Kerala style of prominent Hindus, Muslims and Christians live together as a family in a small town. Christians are migrants from Travancore (Trivandrum of those present near the center of Kerala) and Cochin-Trichur regions. Decided to remain silent about this valley and the first stage of India's Independence from the British (1940).

Other communities are descendants of the local population and occupied early in the forest or agricultural land. 'Paniyas' are the hill tribes. Before Indian independence who lived in the woods picking fruit and roots. They had their own culture.

They do not have the habit of cultivation. We used a certain dialects and language. They lived in small cages and cottages. Another group Karimbalas' live in colonies, with small houses, with bows and arrows. They have a unique ability to collect forest honey bees without disturbing them fatal.
Rivers ....

Bavali River:
It originates from the northern slopes of Brahmagiri forests of Karnataka and Ambayathode reaches after flowing 20 km. Also passing through the Forest Reserve and Aralam Kottiyur Wilidlife Sanctuary. (There is no connection between this current and the district except Bavali River in Wynad similarity in name). Thode Chekuthan of Valad in Wynad, Thode Sreelankan joins and becomes Ambayathode then merges with Ambayathode Bavali.

Aralam River:
Start from the bad Kottappuram in Karnataka and flows 20 kilometers Aralam wildlife sanctuary to reach Ayyappankavu, where river meets Bavali Aralam. It's when Bavali Aralam river joins, becomes wider and deeper Iritty river.

Barapuzha:
other main stream of the river is Iritty Veni River (Barapuzha - River Vallithode). That part of Makkuttam - forestry and forest industry from across Karnataka Peratta uniting to form the river Koottupuzha Vallithode. She meets with the river-Bavali Aralam in Vattiyara near Iritty. From this confluence, the flow of 8 km to the west to Kuyilur Pazhassi Dam Dam (Pazhassi-irrigation project) and continuous flow during the monsoon season.
